Alvin’s housing stock is older than the master-planned sections of Pearland. Mid-century houses, 1970s and 1980s ranches, and later infill sit along SH 35 and SH 6. Wallpaper here is less often a new mural and more often a layer someone is ready to be done with: vinyl in a hall bath, a kitchen border that was painted, paper in a bedroom that has been up since the house was new.
Removal is the first conversation
Painted-over paper does not steam off because you wish it would. It gets scored so remover can reach adhesive, then stripped in a way that saves as much drywall face as possible. Torn face paper is skimmed. Residue is washed. Then the wall can be painted or, if you want pattern again, primed and hung. Skipping the wash is why new paint looks stained in patches. New installs in smaller rooms
Alvin rooms are often eight-foot ceilings and narrower baths. That is an advantage: less paper, tighter pattern repeats to calculate, and a powder room that can be finished in a day once the old layer is gone. Use a coated paper in any bath that steams. Leave grasscloth for a dining room that stays dry.
